The Photo Booth That Started Our Journey, Is Retiring

The Rustic, or “Wild Garden,” Photo Booth created by Box Photo Booths has always been a reflection of how the photo booth industry has evolved over the past decade. When we first started back in 2014, like many others, the focus was on traditional enclosed booths, fun, reliable, but often separate from the overall look and feel of an event. As the years passed, expectations began to shift, particularly within the wedding world, where couples started to care just as much about how something looked as how it functioned. The Rustic Garden (renamed Wild Garden in 2022) booth was born from that change in mindset.

The Rustic Garden Photo Booth
The earliest photo we have of the booth was this one when we launched in 2014 at the BIC Wedding Show. As you can see it was really basic. Cheap festoon lights were soon upgraded. The Tower itself was made from tea chests at this stage, housing the tech, and the backdrop was just a stretched sheet of hessian. However, despite this, we took soooooo many bookings we knew we had a winner

Wedding at North Cadbury Court
The Rustic Gardens first ever event was at the Beautiful North Cadbury Court in Somerset. You can see from the image how we started to improve the design, with 2 giant Photography lights each side of the new main tower, and a primitive backdrop that was an improvement over the first attempt.

Rather than being a simple piece of equipment placed to one side, the Wild Garden setup was designed to feel like part of the event itself. With its soft, nature-inspired styling, lush greenery, gentle florals, and warm, ambient lighting, it brought a relaxed, romantic atmosphere that worked effortlessly in barn venues, marquees, and countryside settings.

The intention was never to dominate a space, but to sit within it naturally, enhancing the surroundings rather than competing with them.

A big part of its success came from its open-air design. Without the need for an enclosed booth, guests could move freely in and out, gather in larger groups, and interact more naturally. It shifted the experience from something slightly tucked away to something more social and inclusive. Visually, too, it allowed the booth to feel lighter and more integrated, an important detail when every element of an event has been thoughtfully styled. The result was often more relaxed guests and more spontaneous, genuine photos.

Of course, while the Wild Garden booth placed a strong emphasis on aesthetics, it never lost sight of what a photo booth should deliver. Instant prints, thoughtfully designed layouts, guestbook options, professional lighting, and a full digital gallery all remained part of the experience. It balanced style with substance, which is ultimately what made it so popular for so long.

The Rustic Garden Photo Booth Improvements

A Photo Booth at Gorwell Barn
The next time out, the improvements had come thick and fast. Ready here at Gorwell Barn in Dorset, the booth had now got a new, singular light, upgraded festoon lighting and a very lush, vine backdrop. From this point the only real changes were a move to LED lighting, removing the need for the large top light, and more foliage!

What made the Wild Garden booth particularly significant is how clearly it mirrored a wider shift in the industry. Photo booths have moved beyond being simple entertainment, something guests use for a bit of fun, to becoming part of the overall visual story of an event. They now sit somewhere between feature and décor, expected not only to capture moments, but to look the part while doing it. In that sense, the Wild Garden booth wasn’t just a product; it was part of a turning point toward more considered, design-led experiences.

After more than a decade in our range, we’ve made the decision to retire the Wild Garden booth. It’s not a decision made lightly, especially for something that has played such a key role in our journey, but it reflects the same thinking that led to its creation in the first place. The landscape continues to evolve, and so do we. As a company, we’ve always believed in adapting, refining, and pushing forward with new ideas rather than standing still.

The Wild Garden photo booth will always represent a chapter where style and experience came together in a new way for us. And while it’s time for it to step aside, it leaves behind a legacy that continues to influence everything we create next.

It's still available for bookings in 2026, but after close of play on December 31st, that will be it.

So, do you fancy being one of the last to use this iconic photo booth? If so, get in touch today...
